The Falkirk Wheel has been short listed in a competition to become Scotland's most treasured place.
In 2008, the Royal Commission of the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland will celebrate 100 years of building a picture of Scotland's past. The celebrations begin with the first ever public vote to choose the nation's favourite image of the most treasured places of Scotland.
Voted for by the public, the Falkirk Wheel emerged as one of the top 10 favourite images from the 100 specially selected from the collections of RCAHMS. Voting for the winning image will stop at 12 noon on Monday 10 December and the winner will be announced on 11 December 2007.
The Falkirk Wheel reconnected the Forth & Clyde and Union Canals allowing passage of traffic between Glasgow and Edinburgh. Bennett Associates produced the general arrangement drawings of the wheel to enable other parties involved to proceed with the project. Bennett Associates was also responsible for the detailed design of the operating and rotating mechanism of the complex wheel structure and the mechanical interfaces.
Bennett Associates would like to wish the Falkirk Wheel the best of luck in the Treasured Places competition.
