The Gateshead Millenium Bridge scheme was one of the finalists in this years' Prime Minsters award for better Public Building.
In 2001, the Prime Minster endorsed an accolade for better public Building in Britain. The initiative aimed to do away with the perception that good design is a costly luxury. The special award celebrates the excellence achieved both in design quality and procurement practices and is made annually to a new building project of any size, commission by or on behalf of central or local government or by a grant-aided organisation.
The ceremony will be held on Friday 11th October 2002 in the Baltic Suare next to the Millennium Bridge. Paul Finch OBE, Deputy Chairman of the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment, who is one of the judges for the award will be there to present the plaque to the Leader of Gateshead Council, Cllr Mick Henry.
Notable bridge projects Bennett Associates have also been involved with include the The Lowry Centre footbridge and the Glasgow Science Centre footbridge.
