‘The bearings are among the more vulnerable parts of the bridge, so a lot of thought has gone into their design and also into replacement techniques', said James Hill from Bennetts. ‘Our solution was to use more bearings than originally planned, but they are less complex and very easy to replace, which meets one of the client's main requirements'.
Main contractor for the project is Birse CL, with Cass Hayward as structural designer. The bridge fabricator was Butterley Ltd, who had previously worked with Bennett Associates on the award-winning Falkirk Wheel boat lift.
