Durham University’s prestigious Higginson Lecture will this
year be given by Nick Cooper, Managing Director of Bennett Associates.
A former student of Durham University, Nick will be giving an
outline to the engineering involved behind some of Bennett Associates well known
projects. These include the Channel Tunnel boring machines, the creep forming
facility for the A380 wing skins, wind turbines, wave power generators and the
mechanics for the Gateshead Millennium Bridge. Nick will also explain in detail
the design and evolution of the Falkirk Wheel.
Nick Cooper, a former student at Hatfield college, left Durham in
1981. Following 1 year working for GEC Electrical Projects, he set up, together
with his Partners, a small dynamic design company in Yorkshire called M.G.
Bennett and Associates Ltd.
The lecture will take place on Tuesday 23rd October at 18.30
on the Science Site at Durham.
Organised by the University's School of Engineering, the
Higginson Lecture is an annual event which was set up in recognition of Sir
Gordon Higginson's major contribution to the School. The lecture provides an
opportunity for a leading engineer to present their perspective on a topical
issue within the broad field of engineering.
