This week sees the retirement of Margaret Butler, Bennett Associates’ Senior
Administrator. Margaret has been with the company almost since its inception and
has no doubt seen many changes over the last 22 years.
She joined the company in June 1985 as a Clerical
Assistant providing part time secretarial and administrative support for a few
hours a week. Margaret’s role eventually developed into a full time position as
the company expanded.
She has had a wide variety of administrative responsibilities
during her time with the company, including sales invoicing and producing
monthly costing figures. Her organisational skills and keen eye for detail were
paramount when she developed a system of cataloguing for the BSI ISO 9001
quality standards for bridges and control systems.
For the past 13 years, Margaret has coordinated Bennett
Associates’ involvement in the Year in Industry scheme. This provides talented
young students with paid, degree relevant work placements in the year out before
or during their university course. Margaret liaised with Year in Industry
representatives to find suitable students for work placement within the company.
Margaret is set to continue her involvement with the Year in Industry scheme
after her retirement. She has been approached by Diane Mee, Head of Client
Relations Management, to become a mentor to students participating in the
program.
“Margaret has been a core member of our staff for the 22 years and
she will be missed not only for her commitment and dedication but her attention
to detail and her ability to spell. Her administrative skills have also been an
asset to the directors whether it has been in recruitment, finance, travel or
publicity. In recognition of this we have had to recruit Margaret’s replacement
earlier to enable a smooth transition and it is a reflection on Margaret’s
organisation that this has been achieved. We will all miss her and we wish her a
long and happy retirement,” said Engineering Director, Mike Turner.
"Thank you very much to Bennetts for having me work for you all
these years. I hope my computer skills have improved slightly! I shall miss you
all," said Margaret.
Margaret is wasting no time in her intention to pursue a very
active retirement - she is embarking on a skiing trip to Italy the very next day
after she retires! She also enjoys gardening, hiking and keeping fit. Having a
keen interest in outdoor activities, Margaret is a member of the Friends of
Ulley Country Park Group. She is also looking forward to spending more time with
her grandson, William.
The team at Bennett Associates wish Margaret a long and
happy retirement and hope she enjoys pursuing the numerous activities she has
planned.
