Bennett Associates to Speak at Key Nuclear Waste Conference

Nick Cooper, Managing Director, and Julian Bonfield, Principal Consultant of Bennett Associates will be speaking at a key Nuclear Waste conference in January 2007.

The Conference, Nuclear Waste: The Challenge of Underground Storage and Disposal, will discuss current practice and future developments for geological deep repository of nuclear waste, emerging technologies and prospects for HLW management both here in the UK and worldwide.

Nick and Julian will be presenting a session entitled ‘Engineering design criteria and concepts for high integrity nuclear lifting and handling in inaccessible areas'. The presentation will include:

• The definition of High Integrity Handling Systems – what it is and what it is not.
• Handling systems - Remote Handling Systems – Hot Cell Remote Handling Systems.
• The risk assessment criteria involved in handling systems.
• The design integration of the repository structure and the handling/retrieve ability systems.
• Maintenance, longevity, reliability, availability.
