Tidal Energy Converter

DeltaStream is a tidal electrical generating technology, distinct from other devices as it does not require fixing to the sea bed. Each DeltaStream energy device is a 1.2MW capacity generator made up of three turbines in a triangular frame.

The DeltaStream design is based on achieving a simple robust tidal energy converter underpinned by the use of proven technologies. The underlying approach is to provide a design solution which has minimal technical risk, an especially important mandate given the hostile application environment and where any equipment failure implies high consequential recovery and repair costs.

The key features of the design are:

.
Gravity foundation
.
Ease of manufacture
.
Ease of deployment & recovery
.
Ease of maintenance
.
Low cost
.
Operates in varied water depths
.
Avoidance of shipping
.
Low environmental impact

Atkins Rotherham has been employed by TEL as their engineering authority to steer the DeltaStream design through prototype design, manufacture, installation and testing to establish a prototype tidal energy converter that meets all the above project objectives.

With close collaboration with specialist contractors, the DeltaStream design has been developed in readiness for installation in Ramsey Sound, Pembrokeshire.
