Electrical Engineer

We occasionally require Electrical Engineers, but have no opportunities at present. If you would like to be considered for a future position, please send your CV to us and we will keep it on file should any suitable roles become available.

The Company

Atkins, Rotherham is a team of detailed mechanical design engineers, specialising in the design of large machinery and materials handling systems. Our portfolio stretches across many industries, with projects as diverse as the Airbus A380 top skin forming facility, the Falkirk Wheel, and backup systems to some of the world’s largest tunnelling machines, together with an increasing focus on the nuclear industry. We specialise in turning complex engineering ideas into a technically viable reality.

We are seeking to grow our engineering team, to support current and future opportunities, whilst maintaining our engineering lead approach to projects. Our project scope spans the entire design process, from concept through analysis into detail design. Successful candidates will therefore possess both the ability to display innovative thought, but also enjoy final project delivery. Whilst project and people management skills are recognised, we are first and foremost seeking excellent engineers.

We presently have opportunities for chartered electrical engineers.

The role is to provide general electrical support to projects undertaken by Atkins Rotherham. To this end, expected duties will involve: -

  • Preparing and reviewing electrical specifications for large machines
  • Preparing and reviewing cable size calculations in accordance with the wiring regulations
  • Design of safety circuits
  • Review of panel design for use on Atkins machines
  • Preparation of PLC software
  • Preparation of SCADA display and logging systems

Requirements

Our general requirements are listed below. However, our key aim is to enhance our team. The demonstration of an understanding of the interaction of electrical and control systems with mechanical and hydraulic sub systems will be looked upon very favourably. The successful candidate can expect to be challenged outside of their current areas of specialisation. Training will therefore be given where appropriate.

  • Relevant degree and chartered status
  • Understanding of BS 7671 (the wiring regulations)
  • Experience of industrial wiring in practice
  • Knowledge of mechanical engineering would be an advantage

Person Specification

  • Able to mentor others within the team in a technical capacity
  • Have a passion and enthusiasm for engineering
  • Target-focused and driven to succeed
  • High level of commercial acumen
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, able to build and develop relationships internally and externally
  • Innovative and open to ideas
  • Flexible in approach, willing to travel to work on client sites etc

Training

Atkins develops individuals through a portfolio of training and development courses designed to help you make the best of your abilities and talents. We run a Continuous Development Program to enable our people to achieve their potential.
