The Company
Atkins, Rotherham is a team of detailed mechanical design engineers, specialising in the design of large machinery and materials handling systems. Our portfolio stretches across many industries, with projects as diverse as the Airbus A380 top skin forming facility, the Falkirk Wheel, and backup systems to some of the world’s largest tunnelling machines, together with an increasing focus on the nuclear industry. We specialise in turning complex engineering ideas into a technically viable reality.
We are seeking to grow our engineering team, to support current and future opportunities, whilst maintaining our engineering lead approach to projects. Our project scope spans the entire design process, from concept through analysis into detail design. Successful candidates will therefore possess both the ability to display innovative thought, but also enjoy final project delivery. Whilst project and people management skills are recognised, we are first and foremost seeking excellent engineers.
We presently have opportunities at all levels, from newly chartered, or working towards being chartered engineers through to senior and principle engineering roles.
The Role
To work under the guidance of a Project Engineer and assist in producing:
- Design layouts
- Design calculations
- Development of PLC logic for the control of mechanical systems
- Preparation of reports
- Commissioning of equipment
- Liaise with clients
Requirements
You will hold an Honours Degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline. It is possible that candidates will have in the general case only limited experience. What you will have is:-
- Ability to think laterally
- A sound understanding of engineering principles
- A willingness to work in many diverse industries
- Have a passion and enthusiasm for engineering
- Good interpersonal skills, able to build and develop relationships both internally and externally
- Want to improve their own knowledge base
- Want responsibility
- Some CAD knowledge and familiar with appropriate packages (eg: AutoCAD, FE analysis software, Microsoft suite of products) and communicating ideas through engineering drawings
- Have an understanding of engineering principles and the calculations that underpin them
- Have an understanding of finite element analysis and interpretation of results
Training
Atkins develops individuals through a portfolio of training and development courses designed to help you make the best of your abilities and talents. We run a Continuous Development Program to enable our people to achieve their potential. In order to fulfil your potential in-house training will be given in appropriate areas including: -
- Finite Element Analysis (Ansys)
- Structural Analysis using proprietary software
- Writing of PLC control systems
- Safety
Staff are encouraged to become Chartered Engineers.
