Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Acting as the technical lead on a number of concurrent projects, you’ll not only ensure excellence of analysis, design and delivery – you’ll guide, mentor and coach junior members of our close-knit, collaborative team. We’re looking for graduate-calibre, IMechE chartered engineers with substantial professional experience underpinned by proven client-facing skills.

Requirements

  • Honours Degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
  • Chartered MIMechE/ working towards chartership
  • CAD literate and familiar with appropriate packages (eg: AutoCAD, FE analysis software, Microsoft suite of products) and comfortable communicating ideas through engineering drawings
  • Strong project engineering experience including project management and some site supervision
  • Detailed understanding of engineering principles and the calculations that underpin them
  • Knowledge of remote handling systems preferable but not essential
  • Knowledge of mechanical building services including pressure vessels an advantage
  • Understanding of finite element analysis and be adept at interpretation of results

Essential

  • Due to the nature of work undertaken at our clients' site offices, some candidates will need to meet certain residency criteria in order to attain a minimum level of UK security clearance and should therefore be willing to undergo a security vetting process
  • Candidates will also be required to successfully pass a site medical examination for health and safety reasons

Responsibilities

Mechanical Engineers will work on small to medium sized multidiscipline design projects and be responsible for the following:

  • Participating in the full design process from layout / concept through to delivery
  • Project definition
  • Preparation of conceptual and scheme designs
  • Preparation of technical specifications
  • Liaison with senior managers to ensure technical deliverables are delivered on time and to client requirements
  • Production and checking of the detailed design deliverables and engineering drawings
  • Senior staff will manage and lead the full design process from layout/ concept through to delivery and there is likely to be a requirement to manage people on project teams

  • High level of commercial acumen
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, able to build and develop relationships internally and externally
  • Innovative and open to ideas
  • Flexible in approach, willing to travel to work on client sites etc
